“Opacity – the state of being opaque, or the degree to which something is opaque”

English Dictionary

“Opa, opa, neka, neka…”

Ljubiša Stojanović Luis

The purpose of the project is to present an imaginary “curtain”, an image of our relationship to the absurd situations we face on a daily basis in urban space.

Opa!city at the same time alludes to the autism of the public and social consciousness in understanding the blurred social strategies, while on the other hand, it forms the Opa City coin, as a sarcastic view of the city that is the product of such social consciousness.

Important changes are happening in the appearance and functioning of the city and, in order to live with them, we look at them through the “curtain” on the level of transparency that suits us: some things we do not notice, some things we do not see intentionally. Life in the city becomes a time between two new spectacles, and the city – a place where spectacle is continually produced – becomes OPA!city.

As a final outcome, the spectacle is no longer awe-inspiring with new, lavish, or magnificent phenomena, but OPA … becomes a sigh of inertia of society and acceptance of phenomena that would be absurd to us in some other context.

Opa!city is the city we live in, and opacity is the way we survive it.

Tim8 is an association of young architects who began their joint work in 2014 at the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Belgrade, with the aim of helping the endangered after the May floods.

Since then, the team has continued to work on projects that address social contexts with a focus on the issue of minimum housing, for vulnerable groups and others.

They have received numerous awards, of which the 2016 Salon of Architecture Award for the project and publication “Temporary Housing Model: From Idea to Realization on the Example of a Roma Settlement” stands out. They have been participants in the BINA program for many years as part of permanent and temporary exhibitions.

Opa!city exhibition is a part of the 3M3 Season 2019 | Tracing the milieu: What were you thinking? curated by Marija Bjelić
